WINDHOEK – Antje Kesselmann and Wiebke Höritzauer celebrated their comeback to the Namibian Maerua Superspar Beach Volleyball series in style as the pair clinched victory in the ladies division during the 6th leg of the annual tourney in Windhoek last weekend.
The pair has been absent from most of the series, which forms part of the Kia Namibia Beach Volleyball Tour, as a result of injury but they showed no sign of rustiness as they won all their games at the DTS Sport Club, finishing ahead of the reunited combination of Teja Lück and Rosi Hennes, in two straight sets in the final. Current log leaders, Anita Kinder and Simone von Wietersheim, came up against youth players Kim Seebach and Stephanie Palmert in the battle for 3rd place and even though the youngsters put up a great showing, it wasn’t enough to stop Kinder and Von Wietersheim from cruising through in two sets.
Under-21 national players Gerard Fischer and Tin Hlupic got their revenge against veterans Achim Lück and Peter Brinkmann in the men’s category, dispatching their opponents who won the last two tournaments in two sets. Ever since Fischer and Hlupic came back from the World Championships in Croatia, they have been struggling against the highly experienced side, but this win surely gives them a much needed confidence boost ahead of the last tournament.
In the 8-team youth/social division, the father-son combination of Mark and Luke Brinkmann came out tops after winning the final match against Absai Simon and Zuma Kalipi in two sets, while the 3rd place went to Lizette Röttcher and her 11-year-old son Amandus. The Farmers Attack team took honours in the 4-A-Side category, leaving Alexander 4 Scoops to pick up the pieces for 2nd spot with WMAS adrift in 3rd place. Lizette Röttcher was voted the FX Fitness most athletic player in the female category. Röttcher competed in both the woman’s and youth/social categories. The accolade in the male category for the FX Fitness most athletic player went to John Anderson of Alexander 4 Scoops.
