President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s compassionate leadership is not only described in Namibia.
African leaders, presidents Duma Boko of Botswana and Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe, used the recent Southern African Development Community Summit in Madagascar to praise Nandi-Ndaitwah for her inspiring leadership and the hope she represents for women across Africa.
New Era is using this content because, as President Nandi-Ndaitwah celebrates her birthday, tributes from her peers highlight not just her political achievements but her humanity.
During his remarks, President Boko described Nandi-Ndaitwah as “a worthy addition to the growing cohort of women presidents on the African continent”.
He thanked Namibian people for “giving us this leader”.
He added that he hopes she brings “a feminine touch, a touch of compassion and due care to a region facing pressing, persistent and trenchant challenges”.
Boko’s comments came as he reflected on Botswana’s own democratic milestone after the October 2024 elections saw a peaceful transition of power following 58 years of single-party rule.
He drew parallels between Botswana’s renewal and Namibia’s new leadership, noting that both countries now symbolise a maturing democracy rooted in accountability and regional unity.
President Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe echoed these sentiments at the same summit, also extending congratulations to President Nandi-Ndaitwah.
He described her leadership as “a sign of Africa’s changing face,” where women are increasingly trusted with national responsibility and the power to influence continental transformation.
Mnangagwa emphasised that Nandi-Ndaitwah’s presidency represents a “moment of hope” for southern Africa as the region works together to address challenges such as poverty, unemployment and instability.
Boko emphasised that Nandi-Ndaitwah’s approach to governance – firm yet compassionate – could inspire a new era of cooperation and care in the region.
Her focus on unity, inclusiveness and social progress has already begun to reshape perceptions of leadership, especially among young African women who see her as proof that dedication and integrity can open the highest doors.
Her story continues to inspire Africa’s daughters and sons alike, reminding all that leadership, at its best, begins with empathy and courage.
