I read the tweets made by government lawyer Eva Maria Nangolo – and honestly speaking, she did nothing wrong. She does not deserve to be treated in such a manner by Minister of Justice Yvonne Dausab.
What I have learned from the lawyer’s remarks is that people, including the media, dismally failed to understand the actual context of her remarks about the Damara people in a positive light.
What I have picked up from her remarks is that it was not intended to harm or perhaps tarnish Damara people at large but to praise them for their improvement on what is mostly known about them.
We got so many people who made tribal remarks on social media or elsewhere, including ministers at some point, whenever they are addressing rallies but not even a single action was taken against them. Simply because it has been made by a lawyer, does it become an issue?
For instance, there was a statement by the late minister Kazenambo Kazenambo (may his soul continue to rest in eternal peace) that said the Aawambo people are stupid. There was no action taken. Not even a summon from the office of President – Hifikepunye Pohamba at that time.
The minister has no right to interfere or make decisions before the investigation.
She was supposed to wait until all the stakeholders involved in the matter finalised everything, and then take a decision based on the findings.
We have an unemployment crisis in our country. By revoking the lawyer’s legal aid certificate, she will no longer be able to practise or represent any client until the certificate has been returned.
What will happen to the children and family who were depending on that particular person as their breadwinner?
People should stop fabricating narratives that were not there and stop celebrating people’s downfall.
