Local oil, gas players upskilled

The National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Namcor), together with SBM Offshore and the Namibia Youth Energy Forum (NYEF), recently organised an FPSO Masterclass to enhance skills and raise awareness in the oil and gas industry.

The session focused on Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) units, which are key facilities used in offshore oil and gas production.

The masterclass was facilitated by Thomas Lorin, FPSO framing manager at SBM Offshore.

Participants received practical information on FPSO design, construction and operations.

The training was designed to benefit both industry professionals and young Namibians interested in careers in the energy sector.

The event attracted more than 110 participants, including Namcor employees and youth community members.

Organisers said the strong attendance showed growing national interest in Namibia’s offshore oil and gas industry and the need for skills development.

Speaking at the event, SBM Offshore country manager Matthieu Jeannin said the masterclass was a great success.

He thanked all partners involved for making it possible.

“The level of engagement and interest demonstrated by participants was highly encouraging and reflected the appetite for technical capacity-building within Namibia’s emerging energy landscape,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of Namcor, Paulo Coelho, manager, marketing, communications and spokesperson, expressed satisfaction with the event’s overall success.

“This class aligns with Namcor’s mandate to build awareness and readiness for Namibia’s evolving oil and gas sector, especially amongst the youth,” he said.

He noted that initiatives like these are critical to demystifying complex offshore operations and ensuring that both industry professionals and young Namibians are exposed to the knowledge and opportunities that will shape the country’s energy future. Namcor reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that build local capacity, promote industry awareness and prepare Namibians for opportunities arising from offshore exploration and future production activities.

The FPSO Masterclass is part of a broader series of planned engagements focused on knowledge sharing and youth development in the energy sector.
