WINDHOEK– Best overall student among the recent graduates of The Namibian Women Health and Network under the Youth Economic Empowerment Programme (YEEP), says the Electronic Engineering course he took, and which he was scheduled to finish in ten months, eventually took him 18 months due to many challenges.
YEEP) held a graduation ceremony for their beneficiaries of 2013 at the Katutura Youth Resource Centre on November 16. Hard work and determination best describe the 18- year- old Matias Kanime, the overall best trainee. Among the challenges were lack of material for practical training but this did not stop him from becoming the best student. “This just motivates me to further my studies as I am planning to do it next year at a different institution,” says Matias who have just earned a certificate in Eeltronic Engineering. “I am grateful of what the YEEP is doing to the youth of Namibia and they must continue to help other more in future,” Matias pleads.
The Namibian Women Health and Network sponsored youth from informal settlements to do short courses to enable them to start up their own enterprises or to be employed through the skills they have obtained. Festus Morgan Bock, YEEP Media Spokesperson says with the outreaches they held, they had a chance to train and inform the youth on issues concerning HIV, Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights, Gender Based Violence and entrepreneurships skills. “This year we had an intake of 90 beneficiaries from different regions and 55 graduated from different institutions,” informs Bock.
