Meat Board increases cattle brand admin fees

Home Farmers Forum Meat Board increases cattle brand admin fees

Windhoek

To settle the administration costs of cattle brand registrations, the Meat Board announced the following cattle brand administration fees: Registration of a cattle brand: N$115; Transfer of a cattle brand: N$42 and Duplicate certificate of a cattle brand: N$72.

The fees come into effect today and are annually increased together with the official inflation rate. The Minister of Agriculture, Water and Forestry, John Mutorwa, already announced this increase on recommendation of the Meat Board last year. The Meat Board has also set standard values to determine levies on the transaction of livestock for the financial year April 01 2016 to March 31 2017.

In terms of Government Notice 139 of 2012 the Meat Board has to annually to set standard values for the payment of levies on the transaction of livestock by producers, exporters and importers. These values are used to establish the value of livestock during export, out-of-hand and C-class abattoir slaughtering and import transactions. These values are calculated on transactions during the previous calendar year 2015 and come into force on April 01 and remain until March 31, 2017. The standard values for the financial year 2016 are as follows:
Item Standard Value (N$)
Cattle – (any transaction) 4 264
Cattle – (for slaughter) 6 586
Goat (any transaction) 803
Sheep (any transaction) 766
Pig (any transaction) 1 357
Standard values are only used where livestock transactions cannot be verified, for example export of livestock, slaughtering of animals at local abattoirs and out-of-hand sales; otherwise the relevant transaction value applies as at auctions and export abattoirs and the import of livestock. The payment of levies is not subject to VAT.
