A 25-year-old police officer survived an alleged attack by a group of people whom he found parking their cars randomly in the road.
The incident happened over the weekend at Okangwena location in Ondangwa around 22h00.
The alleged victim is a police officer based at the Ondangwa police station. He was admitted at the Onandjokwe hospital, but later discharged.
Oshana police spokesperson Thomas Aiyambo said the officer was driving his personal vehicle on his way to the service station. He got out of his vehicle to request them to remove their vehicles so that he could be able to pass.
The suspects allegedly refused, and one threw an object at the victim, which hit him in his face.
Police said a scuffle then broke out, and a lot of people surrounded him.
“Everyone had metals and stones in their hands. That’s when the victim drew the firearm he had, and shot in the air. The suspects then fled from the scene,” he explained.
He added that the victim had passengers in his vehicle, but none came out.
In another incident, two police officers who were on duty and dropping off another colleague were likewise attacked by two men after they warned them to stop what they were doing in Ongwediva on Friday around 21h00.
The suspects allegedly assaulted the police officers, pushed them, insulted them and threatened to assault them with a panga.
The suspects have been arrested.
