Murder suspect jeopardizes own case

Home Crime and Courts Murder suspect jeopardizes own case

By Roland Routh

WINDHOEK – There is no lawyer available to represent Richard Hange who is charged with one count of murder in the Windhoek High Court, after his state-funded lawyer withdrew from the case.

Moudi Hangula informed Judge Christi Liebenberg that she was not comfortable defending Hange as he kept on giving her conflicting instructions.

The judge was further told that legal aid currently does not have a legal representative available to take over Hange’s case.

State Advocate Jack Eixab asked the court to postpone the matter to 30 July to see whether a new lawyer could be found and for possible fixing of a new trial date. Eixab also told the court he would need a maximum of three days to present the State’s case.

Hange, 27, who remains in custody since his arrest in September 2011 when he was only 24 years old is charged with the murder of his live-in girlfriend and the mother of his child, Lisa Kandovazu, on 27 September, 2011.
