WINDHOEK – Local artist Albert Uulenga, better known by his stage name Mushe, yesterday called on uncircumcised men to get the ‘smart cut’.
After performing his hit song Ongalamwenyo at the launch of the Smart Cut Clinic at the Katutura Health Center, Mushe told the crowd he personally was circumcised early this year.
The artist said he had been reluctant to get the ‘smart cut’ because he feared the process would be painful.
After doing research and much encouragement from friends, he eventually got the ‘smart cut’ in February, he said.
Not only does it reduce the chances of contracting HIV by 60 percent and sexually transmitted illnesses, but it’s easier to maintain in terms of hygiene.
“You feel clean after you’re cut,” he said. He urged men who are not circumcised to consider the benefits. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Social Services Benetus Nangombe commended Mushe for getting the ‘smart cut’.
“The statistics speak for themselves. Voluntary medical male circumcision can reduce the chances of acquiring HIV by up to 60 percent,” said Nangombe.
