About 260 electricity consumers have been penalised a total of N$I million by Nored for bypassing meter readings in their areas.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nored Gottlieb Amanyanga announced this at a media briefing on Friday, June 29.

He said Nored was currently working out the costs involved following illegal connections by consumers. Amanyanga cautioned residents in the area of supply by Nored to refrain from practices which constitute vandalism, tampering and stealing of electricity. He said residents were encouraged to continue reporting in confidence all suspected illegal connections, tampering and vandalism of Nored property.

The power utility will reward those willing to come forward with information that would lead to the arrest and prosecution of suspects.

Amanyanga also announced the completion of the Keypad Standard Transfer Specification (STS) meters which have replaced the old Magnetic Meters systems. The project which cost N$3, 9 million was done with assistance of trainees from the Valombola Vocational Training Centre at Ongwediva who have been awarded certificates of completion of their internal training by Nored. About 6 700 metres were replaced. Nored also announced an average increase of 7,3% which it said was well below the bulk supplier (Nampower) increase of 13,5 % of which 6,2 % is paid by Nored.
