Olof Palme compelled to send learners away

Home Featured Olof Palme compelled to send learners away

WINDHOEK- Places in schools are still hard to find by some parents and their children in Windhoek despite the fact that the new school term already started last week.

Some schools can no more accommodate learners with most classes already full to capacity.  Olof  Palme Primary School Principal, Julia Hangula, says it is not an easy process to go through as the school is full and there is no more space especially for the Grade One which is in demand. “We have a problem with parents that are coming in looking for admission for their children for Grade 2 to 7. The fact that we already has our learners we can only admit few learners in the space of those who did not come back but most of the time they cannot even be five, so we can hardly accommodate new learners in those grades,” says Hangula.

Most parents were send back as there are no more spaces to accommodate their children says the principal. She adds that Grade One is full to capacity and she has been told not to refer the parent to the Head of Department anymore as they cannot do anything. “We have gone beyond the 35 learner’s limit that was supposed to be in the class. Most of the classes are having 38, even 40 learners due to the demand of space, even though the school offer two sections,  the morning and afternoon classes this did not change the situation,” says  Hangula.
