Omuthiya to benefit from Limpompo bilateral agreement

Home National Omuthiya to benefit from Limpompo bilateral agreement

Omuthiya

Omuthiya will be among the towns to benefit from Limpompo Province’s memorandum of understanding (MoU) initiative dating back to 2006 and aimed to foster bilateral relations with the four northern regions. Limpopo is a province in South Africa.

The agreement, to take full effect from September, will see Omuthiya benefiting from capital projects in line with set goals, such as the establishment of an agricultural plantation farm and developing the famous hot spring into a recreational centre, where lodges and a golf course are envisaged to be constructed.

The projects falls under the tourism and agricultural sector and are listed as action plans in areas of cooperation, which also cover education, arts and culture, economic development and governance.

The initiative started in 2006 after Limpompo’s participation in the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair where its delegation met with governors of the four northern regions – Oshana, Oshikoto, Ohangwena and Omusati.

Last year September a technical team from Limpompo made a follow-up visit to the regions, which resulted in the said fields of cooperation.

The premier of Limpompo will thus be visiting the four northern regions, together with other delegations, towards the end of this month and will be in the country on a four-day visit.

In preparation for this the Governor of Oshikoto Region, Henock Kankoshi, councillors and stakeholders of the region convened a meeting yesterday to brainstorm on other projects which can be integrated, considering the financial hurdles in executing the projects.

“Having been to Limpompo and seen the area, I fully welcome the initiative considering that the terrain and vegetation in that area are similar to ours in all the four regions. Therefore I have hope we will have much of a working relationship because they can relate,” stated Kankoshi.

He urged stakeholders to do their homework ahead of the event, in order for it to be a success.
