Born in Windhoek Rivan Meyer grew up in the capital and is the elder brother to two sisters.
Rivan went on to school at MH Greef Primary School where he was a top achiever in his time there. He was then selected to attend an orientation course at the Deutsche Hohere Privatschule (DHPS) after which he was then accepted after numerous assessments. “I enjoyed all sorts of sports and extra mural activities throughout my school career. I played soccer, basketball, table tennis, sang in the school choir and I was part of the school theater group.”
Inspired by his father, Rivan started singing in a school choir in Grade 5 and has continued to sing ever since. Rivan has embarked on solo projects and has sung by invitation at local functions. He especially enjoys singing rhythm and blues but sings all genres.
Rivan attended the University of Namibia where he studied Accounting. He soon realised he wanted to do something else and changed courses to study Business Computing at the Polytechnic of Namibia. He has obtained his Diploma, but still aiming towards completing a Bachelor’s degree.
Rivan started working at Standard Bank in 2005, and has worked his way up from the bottom obtaining in the process his IT diploma from Polytechnic. Through hard work and diligence Rivan is now the Internet Banking Manger at Standard Bank. Rivan took on his new role in June, and is responsible for the development, implementation, enhancement and support of Standard Bank Namibia’s Internet banking products and service. “I am presently not singing, as my primary focus at the moment is to complete my degree and I would be required to study part time. Even though singing is my passion, I still believe that we were born with a talent and I would always be able to sing anywhere.”
Rivan is planning continuing with his passion (singing) after completing his degree, which he plans on doing in his free time. Now married and a family man, Rivan is working on achieving new goals in his career and providing a comfortable life for him and his family.
Rivan advice to others is to follow their dreams and always work hard, to remember God and to pray for all the blessings they receive, no matter how big or small. “Do not procrastinate. If you really want to achieve something, you have to start today.”
