All set for women in media conference

The fourth edition of the Nedbank Women in Media Conference will take place tomorrow at the Nedbank Campus in Windhoek.

The event, to be held under the theme “Bringing together diverse voices”, is expected to draw various women from the media and corporate sector to exchange ideas and collaborate, while highlighting the crucial role they play in advocating for women’s rights and gender equality.

The dialogue will focus on topics such as re-defining media business challenges, empowering narratives through the lens, women’s pivotal role in cinematography, threats to female journalists and safety in the newsroom, and addressing Namibian challenges in crafting narratives.

Event organiser and Women in Media co-founder Limba Mupetami said this year the conference will host prominent figures from media organisations, scholars  and corporate entities who will dwell on a wide range of topics from the portrayal of women in media to strategies for career advancement and leadership development.

According to Mupetami, the diverse range of topics effectively bridges the gap between current and former journalists and women in the corporate sector, fostering a dynamic exchange of ideas and experiences. This inter-sectionality strengthens the conference’s impact, providing valuable insights and opportunities for collaboration across different sectors of the media industry, she said.

On the other hand, Selma Kaulinge, Nedbank Namibia spokesperson, said their support of the event has yielded positive results since the inception of their partnership with Women in Media, and they will continue to aid in strengthening collaboration amongst women in the media fraternity.

“At Nedbank Namibia, we recognise the pivotal role of women in shaping the media landscape and driving societal change. Through this conference, we aimd to foster a supportive environment for women in media to exchange ideas, share experiences and forge partnerships that drive positive impact. As money experts who do good, we believe that collaboration between media houses and corporations is essential for driving innovation, promoting diversity and amplifying women’s voices in the media,” Kaulinge said.

The event is open to those working in the media industry, including media interns and students studying towards media-related qualifications, and sponsored by Nedbank Namibia, Multichoice Namibia, European Union, Pupkewitz Motors, Gondwana Collection and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) Media. -lnashuuta@gmail.com
