American Embassy Staff Give Blood
"By Staff Reporter WINDHOEK - In support of World Blood Donation Day on Friday local and foreign staff members at the American Embassy in Windhoek displayed their spirit of volunteerism and donated blood to sustain this noble and life-saving cause. More than 20 staff members took time out of their schedules to donate blood at a Blood Transfusion Service of Namibia mobile blood donation clinic. ""We are really proud to be part of this essential service. Blood is a scarce commodity, and often we do not realise the need for safe blood for transfusions. Donating blood is giving a life-saving gift to someone out there who really needs it to live,"" said Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Windhoek, Eric Benjaminson. The theme of this year's World Blood Donation Day is ""Giving Blood Regularly"". The aim is to support national blood donor programmes in building a stable base of voluntary unpaid donors who make a long-term commitment to blood donation. World Blood Donation Day is jointly coordinated by four founding partners: the World Health Organization, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Organization of Blood Donor Organizations and the International Society of Blood Transfusion.
