American Priest on Special Visit
"By Staff Reporter WINDHOEK Dr Elbert Ransom, confidant and advisor to the late Reverend Dr Martin Luther King Jr., last week travelled through northern and central Namibia as the US Embassy's Black History Month speaker. He has been presenting lectures and talks on the history of the American Civil Rights Movement. In the north, Dr Ransom visited the Volombola Vocational Training Centre, the Ongwediva Teachers' Training College and the Mweshipandeka High School, where he gave lectures on the history of the American Civil Rights Movement. Dr Ransom, an ordained priest himself, also met with religious leaders and led discussions on the community of faith and social change. On Sunday Dr Ransom gave a sermon at the New Covenant Celebration Church in Windhoek, much to the delight of the assembled congregation. He also had breakfast with local church leaders around breakfast, and at the Dawid Bezuidenhout High School in Khomasdal he received a hero's welcome when he presented a one-hour lecture on the Civil Rights Movement. ""I am in Africa to find out about my origin. Namibia is an amazing country - it pulls you in, it invites you in,"" he said before he left over the weekend. Dr Elbert Ransom, with some students in the north. "
