Angolans survive accident in Ongwediva
Ongwediva An Angolan national and his nephew survived a freak accident on a bridge at Ongwediva when their car crashed into the bridge following a tyre burst. Jose Messele was escorting his nephew to Ongwediva Medipark when the accident happened on Tuesday, shortly before lunch. According to Messele, after the tyre burst he struggled to bring the car under control when it eventually hit the bridge, smashing into a part of it. He said they were very fortunate that the vehicle did not fall off the bridge and that there was no oncoming traffic at the time. “We are lucky we were not hurt. It is only the car’s front that was damaged and we will take the car to a local garage [to get it fixed],” Messele said. He also thanked the police for responding promptly to the incident. Messele and his nephew sustained only minor scratches. The car wreckage was removed shortly after the accident and the road was rapidly cleared of debris and made accessible again to other motorists.
