Applications for Chevening scholarship close next week
WINDHOEK The application cycle for the United Kingdom (UK)’s government-funded Chevening scholarship for the 2016/17 academic year is still open and will close next Thursday, November 3. Chevening is the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. The programme makes awards to outstanding scholars with leadership potential from around the world to undertake fully-funded postgraduate courses at UK universities. Awards in Namibia are typically for a one-year Master’s degree, with priority given to those who wish to study in the areas of trade, human rights, governance, media and climate change at any of the UK’s leading universities. Meanwhile, the British High Commission last week welcomed home Vicky Matjila and Alina Haidula, who both held Chevening scholarships in the 2014/15 academic year and returned to Namibia, having successfully completed their postgraduate studies, receiving their Masters in International Relations from the University of Cardiff and Petroleum Geoscience from Royal Holloway, University of London respectively. Alina Haidula’s scholarship was co-sponsored by the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Namcor). Adding onto the great news, Chevening, via the British High Commission in Windhoek, signed a partnership agreement with the Petroleum Training and Education Fund (Petrofund), offering two jointly funded scholarships in the field MSc. Petroleum Economics and LLM Oil and Gas for two Namibian scholars. All applications for this joint scholarship have to be made online via www.chevening.org. More about the Chevening Scholarship programme can be found here: http://www.chevening.org/namibia/. Mahnke via hans-christian.mahnke@fco.gov.uk, or telephone +264 61 274826, alternatively +264 811555278.
