Art and entertainment festival Saturday

A festival that showcases Namibian art, traditional cuisine and music is set to take place tomorrow at the old Cardboard Box establishment along John Meinert Street in Windhoek.

Aptly titled the Art, Music & Food (AMF) Festival, the event aims to be a platform for artisans from all spheres of the creative industry to come together and showcase their work.

Organisers Founa Kazongominja (30) and Princleene Hamases (24) came up with the festival after seeing the lack of opportunities and spaces offered to young and gifted Namibians to thrive.

“We are not saying that a food and art culture does not exist in Namibia; Namibians have always been talented people. We are simply saying that it is not celebrated as much as it should be. The AMF fest is an excellent opportunity for people to see the beauty in Namibia through Namibian talent with a Namibian perspective,” said Kazongominja.

Intended to display the raw untapped talent Namibians have to offer, the festival will host an array of live art performances. Visual artist Emilie will be painting, and there will be interactive art activities for children. But if you are in the mood for something a little less involved, there will be sip-and-paint sessions.  Musical performances are expected from among others Takunda, Tapz and Dizzy HQ. An open mic session will also be on offer.

Festival goers can also look forward to a bonfire, and a chef will be on the scene to teach them how to cook exotic meals.

Poignantly set to occur a few days after Africa Day, the event will commence at 10h00 till late.

“We see this going big. We obviously want to weigh our options and see how successful our first event will be, but we want to host this festival once every season with African artists spread throughout the continent and the diaspora. We want to put Namibian talent on the map,” said Kazongominja.
