Bank Windhoek and AIESEC back Youth Speak Forum
2016-04-20Staff Report 2 WINDHOEK Bank Windhoek recently partnered with AIESEC Namibia to host the annual Youth Speak Forum (YSF) during National Youth Week. The YSF will take place from April 25 to 29. YSF is a platform where the youth, civil society organisations, companies, the government and conversational experts come together to discuss a range of issues facing the youth of Namibia. The idea is to give young folks a platform to voice their opinions to relevant stakeholders. The general objectives of the platform include providing the youth with a platform to share their perspectives on social issues; to encourage the youth to be solution-orientated and to identify opportunities from the problems; to expose stakeholders to active young people so as to get new perspectives on what young people are looking for; to allow students from different backgrounds to come together and create projects that will benefit the society they live in; to give training and mentoring to young people through workshops and getting young people to understand the concept of social entrepreneurship and how social problems can be tackled through business ideas and projects. “We’re proud to be associated with the YSF and to help get the conversation started around topical issues facing young people in Namibia. Through our partnership we believe that lively interaction with keynote speakers and break-away workshops will enhance the overall goals of the YSF,” says André le Roux, a communication practitioner at Bank Windhoek. AIESEC Namibia, founded in July 2013, is currently present at the International University of Management, the Namibian University of Science and Technology (NUST) and the University of Namibia (Unam) with over 50 members. To date it has facilitated 30 volunteer exchange experiences, four professional internships and organised two conferences (Developing Leaders Day and Youth to Business Forum). “Our goal is to develop high-potential Namibian youth into globally-minded responsible leaders through partnerships with businesses, government, and institutions of higher education,” says Tobias Mészáros, president of AIESEC in Namibia. 2016-04-20Staff Report 2
