Beverage robbed of N$50 000
Windhoek Namibia Beverages, based in the northern industrial area at Lafrenz, was robbed of N$50 000, Inspector Slogan Matheus from the police public relations division said at the weekly crime briefing on Sunday. He said the incident happened on Friday at around midnight when five men armed with pistols pointed a gun at the security guard and tied him up before breaking into the office. The armed robbers proceeded to steal N$50 000 and a 9mm pistol. The men allegedly used a motor vehicle and transported a cutting torch, gas bottles and cylinders into and out of the premises, which they used to cut open the strong rooms and safes. Nobody has yet been arrested in connection with the robbery and police investigations continue. GRENADE EXPLOSION In a separate incident on Friday, at Kehemu Location in Rundu a 13-year-old boy detonated a hand grenade, causing injury to himself. It is alleged that the boy was playing on a dumpsite when he accidently detonated an incendiary device suspected to be a M26 Hand Grenade of South African origin, causing serious injuries to his face, left hand and chest. The victim has been identified as Ndumba Mukoya, aged 13. He was admitted to the Rundu State Hospital and his condition is reported to be stable. WOMAN RAPED A 25-year-old woman was reportedly raped by a 36-year-old man on Saturday at 02h00 at Aroab location in Keetmanshoop, while sleeping in her bedroom. It is alleged the suspect jumped through the window, while the woman was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent. The man afterwards jumped back out of the widow and fled, but was later arrested and was due to appear at the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court on Monday. TWO MEN SHOT On Sunday at 04h30 at Koko Lounge in Ongwediva, two men, aged 30 and 31, were shot by a security guard with a rifle, sustaining serious injuries as a result. It is alleged that the security guard confronted the two men after he had ordered them not to leave with the glasses of the establishment. Risto Shiyagaya, 30, was shot and injured on the left leg knee and Leopold Quintine Cylir, 31, was shot and injured on the left foot. The security guard was arrested and was expected to be brought before Oshakati Magistrate’s Court on Monday. HEART ATTACK On Friday, at around 11h35 on the Noordoewer main road a 59-year-old South African national suffered a heart attack while driving. He was declared dead at the scene by a medical doctor. It is reported that the deceased was driving in a Range Rover with his wife in the company of fellow South Africans, who were all heading back to South Africa when the driver all of a sudden leaned towards his passenger and pulled the vehicle from the road. The heart attack victim was identified as Raymond Owen Brent from Cape Town. His next of kin have been informed.
