Currently at number seven in the World Boxing Organization (WBO) World rankings, the undefeated Namibian is destined for the bigger stage. Indongo’s handler, the revered Nestor ‘Sunshine’ Tobias, could not heap enough praise on his protégé. “Any boxer ranked in the top 15 of the world rankings can challenge for a world title. Being the incumbent WBO Africa junior welterweight champion Julius is a good investment – hence we are putting in a lot of effort to get him ready for a world title within the not too distant future,” boasts Tobias. Shilongo, 30, sports an impressive unbeaten record of 17 bouts with 11 of those bouts finishing within the distance – certainly a remarkable feat. He will be the main attraction during the annual Independence Boxing Bonanza at the Windhoek Country Club on March 19. The Namibian, who joined the paid ranks in 2011, will defend his WBO Africa junior welterweight belt against Allen Komote from Tanzania in the main bout of the night. “We would urge potential sponsors to come on board and support boxing because boxing provides astonishing returns as can be attested by the record-breaking figures of viewers tuning into television for the live broadcast of major boxing bouts. “Boxing enjoys the biggest global support in terms of viewers and it has even surpassed football, rugby and basketball,” Tobias insists.
