Emmanuel Kingdom Missions received N$5 000 from the winners of the Bank Windhoek and Gondwana Collection Namibia’s Big Apple Bake-Off Competition.

Nicoline Seibes, Ennede Oukhumes, Nicoleen Rieth and Berry Wasserfall shared their N$10 000 winning prize with the charity. The four, who work at the Grove SuperSpar bakery, won the competition after their apple pie was chosen as the best among the 36 apple pies and ‘apfelstrudels’ received. Emmanuel Kingdom Missions runs 24 soup kitchens across the country, feeding more than 3 200 vulnerable children, three times per day. The church also operates at various old-age homes and welfare organisations in the capital.

Vicky Tagliaferri of Emmanuel Kingdom Missions said the charity was excited to receive the funds, as they would help them to assist more vulnerable children.

Riaan van Rooyen, Head: Corporate Communication and Social Investment at Bank Windhoek, said: “Bank Windhoek is pleased that the winners chose a charity that is making a difference in many communities around the country. With the current freezing weather in the capital, the soup kitchens will go a long way in keeping the vulnerable children warm and fed during the winter season.”

The Bank Windhoek and Gondwana Apple Pie Competition was established this year to support the 2015 Bank Windhoek Cancer Apple Project and get the public more involved in the project.

Five participants of the competition, which ended on Saturday, also stand a chance to win two nights’ accommodation for two people at any Gondwana Collection Namibia lodge. The winners will be announced next week.
