City employee held for colleague’s murder

An employee of the City of Windhoek is set to appear in court this morning, following the alleged murder of a colleague on Wednesday night last week.

According to City Police chief Abraham Kanime, the suspect, who is a close friend of the victim, allegedly stabbed him with kitchen knife following a quarrel.
He said the incident occurred at Katutura’s Grysblok.
Police spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi said the victim was identified as 34-year-old Tangeni Hamakali.

The suspect is 50 years old.
“Both the suspect and the deceased were reported to be employees for the City of Windhoek. It is alleged the suspect was accusing the deceased of stealing his money, which led the two into an argument and then a fight ensued, which resulted in a fatal stabbing,” she stated.

Shikwambi also dismissed claims that the two are City Police officers. “Please note that they are not police officers as perceived. They are working for the City of Windhoek. The deceased was allegedly on contract while the suspect is a permanent employee,” she stated.
