Civics Sail to the Top
"By Carlos Kambaekwa WINDHOEK Civics shot to the top of the MTC Namibia Premiership log standings following a hard-fought 2-1 win over relegation threatened Mighty Gunners after a goalless first half, at the Mokati Stadium in Otjiwarongo last night. The defending champions took the lead 5 minutes after the break through enterprising winger Eslin ""Lovers"" Kamuhanga. The goal was the purple-haired youngster's second after he netted the only goal of the match in the Civilians' drawn match against African Stars, last Sunday. The hosts equalized in the 71st minute through midfielder Sageus Narimab, and the match looked destined for a stalemate until discarded Brave Warriors defender Franklin April popped up to rattle home the decisive goal with 10 minutes left on the clock. The tough as steak defender latched onto a loose ball after the usually reliable Gunners goalkeeper, Edwin Narib, spilled a harmless looking shot from Victor Helu. The diminutive winger was teed off by overlapping fullback Zedekia Haukambe and tried his luck with a wicked shot. The victory moved the Civilians to the top of the log standings on 32 points, one point ahead of Orlando Pirates, but Helmuth Scharnowsky's lads have played a match more than the other title contenders.
