Confessed teen killer to hear fate soon

A 15-year-old teenager from Rehoboth who admitted that he murdered an elderly woman in 2018 will hear his fate on 18 February when Windhoek High Court Judge Dinnah Usiku delivers her ruling in the matter.

The teenager, who cannot be named due to his age, is accused of committing several offences, including rape, robbery and arson.
He has, however, denied the three charges, but admitted to the murder of 57-year-old Sarah Jagger, as well as violating her dead body.
Judge Usiku heard oral arguments in the matter this week. In a plea explanation submitted to the court by his legal aid lawyer Linus Samaria, the teenager admitted that he murdered Jagger during the period 24-25 September 2018 near Bahnhoff Station in the Rehoboth district.
Prosecutor Anita Meyer asked the court to convict the youngster on all counts he is charged with. According to her, claims that he did not rob anyone or that he did not have the intention to cause the utter damage to the two shacks he set on fire is devoid of truth and he must bear the consequences of his acts.

The teenager denied committing arson in his plea explanation. He further said items he took from the shacks constituted theft only.
His lawyer Samaria asked the court to take into account the age of the accused and the fact that he is not yet fully grown which could possibly explain his inability to understand the charges.

According to the summary of substantial facts in the indictment, the accused attacked the deceased who was alone and walking on a gravel road from Bahnhoff Station to Farm Aoxas and dragged her a distance away from the road.
He then undressed the deceased while kicking her and hitting her with stones, in the process fracturing her skull and ribs, and then raped her at least two times, it is alleged.

The deceased died on the scene due to blunt impact on the head and chest, the indictment states. It is further alleged that the youngster then robbed the deceased of her bag and cut off or amputated a foot of the deceased, put it in a plastic bag and threw it on a gravel road.
He also proceeded to stab or cut the body of the deceased with a knife or other sharp object. It is further alleged that the teenager then broke into a zinc house at farm Aoxas and stole several items whereafter he set the shack and another one on the farm alight. The teenager remains in custody.
