Construction of Ompumbu reservoir progressing well

OSHAKATI - The construction of the N$8.2 million reservoir at Ompumbu is progressing well and is expected to be completed in May, Oshakati Town Council spokesperson Katarina Kamari confirmed.

She said the construction of the foundation of both the reservoir and the water tanks has already kicked off, and council is only waiting for the delivery of the water tanks.

“The foundations have been laid, and we are only waiting for the water tanks to arrive in March. The projects will be completed within the anticipated time,” Kamari added.

The water service at Ompumbu will be providing water to 611 erven at Ompumbu Extension 1, 2 and Ompumbu Proper.

She said the reservoir is important for the area, as it will store water for when there are water cuts or shortages at the town.

The provision of water is the first phase of formalising Ompumbu.

The council has engaged the residents of Ompumbu to pave way for development to meet the demand for land at the town.

“The aim is to create many erven in Oshakati, and we see it fit to accommodate more people who are seeking land. Council has a long list of residents on the waiting list, and that is what we want to address by formalising informal settlements,” Kamari stressed.

Once the current project is completed, council will move to put up a similar project at Ehenye 11 and part of Extension 12.

These projects seek to ensure that residents of Oshakati have access to water all the time.

Council has 18 reservoirs within the town. In addition to providing water to the community, council is also servicing
land.

Furthermore, they are also addressing the challenge of roads, and are currently constructing gravel roads at Okandjengedi South and Onawa.
