Court case traumatizes learner
RUNDU - A 22-year-old suspect who stands accused of housebreaking has pleaded that his case, together with two others, be completed as soon as possible because he constantly misses school to attend court proceedings. Tjimbi Toivo Sikerete (22), who says he is a learner at a school in Walvis Bay wants the court to expedite the court ruling or extend the time between remand periods so that he can concentrate on his school work. “I am a student in Walvis Bay and because of the case I always have to travel back and forth. As a result I miss my classes because I constantly have to travel due to the short time between the appearance dates. Can the court please give a longer remand time or finalise the case quickly,” pleaded Sikerete. He told Control Magistrate William Kasitomo during the court proceedings that he constantly has to ask for permission from the school management to miss classes in order to travel to Rundu for the pending housebreaking case. Sikerete, together with Kasera Jacobus Sihinga (23) and Benhard Musenge (25) yesterday made another appearance in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on a charge of housebreaking with the intent to steal. Sihinga is currently out on bail of N$3 000 while Musenge and Sikerete are out on N$5 000 and N$3 500 bail respectively. It is alleged that in 2011 they burgled the house of a well-known Rundu-based private doctor and stole goods worth about N$100 000. Meanwhile, Sikerete’s co-accused, Kasera Sihinga, also urged the court to finalise the case, addingt: “I cannot do other things because I am always thinking of the case.” During past appearances, the trio pleaded not guilty to the charge. Control Magistrate William Kasitomo, who presided, informed the accused that they must be back in court on November 21 2013. Public Prosecutor Billy Lutaka represented the State.
