Down memory lane with People’s Choice

The 11th edition of the Kasi Vibe Festival promises to be a thrilling show, with a performance from the hit makers of ‘Siwelewele’ – People’s Choice – expected to grace the stage on Thursday for a throwback section.

Hailing from Gobabis in the Omaheke region, People’s Choice was prominent in the early 1990s following the release of their hit song ‘Siwelewele’.

A member of People’s Choice, Frans Katamelo said he has mixed feelings about performing at the festival.

“I saw the comments on social media about us performing and all I could read was many Namibians remembering the old times they shared with their loved ones who are no more. They had uncles, aunts, cousins, fathers and mothers who used to groove to songs such as ‘Siwelewele’, so I am feeling a little bit nostalgic about next week,” expressed Katamelo with a shaky voice, adding that they also lost four members of the group.

He reminded VIBEZ! of the importance of music, saying it has the ability to instil lasting memories and evoke emotions when necessary.

Katamelo stated that they all now have solo careers, and he has assisted in producing Anna Afrikaner and Martin Tubinajne’s albums as well as his own.

“We have been busy. All I can say is let’s all meet at the Kasi Vibe Festival next weekend and let’s have a good time,” he said.

Spokesperson of the Kasi Vibe Festival Salmi Shiguedha said the show starts on Thursday with a heavy throwback session.

Lots more music is on offer throughout the festival, especially Saturday when the performance lineup includes Sally Boss Madam, DJ Maggz, Mooi Ngaro and Loco Sound.

Apart from entertaining and being a hub where locals can network and relax, the main purpose of Kasi Vibe is to continue promoting local services and products.
