TSUMEB - Two employees of Dundee Precious Metal at Tsumeb in the Oshikoto Region on Monday appeared in the town’s magistrate’s court after they allegedly stole items worth N.dollars 110 000 from their employer.

The duo, Thimoteus Festus and Philipus Tjopofa, both aged 34, appeared before Magistrate Ndatola Boyd on a charge of housebreaking with intent to steal and theft. Their case was postponed to 10 January 2024, pending investigations.

The suspects were refused bail and remanded in custody until their next court appearance.

It is alleged that the employees, between June and October this year broke into the prefabricated rooms at the mine’s camp premises on several occasions. They allegedly stole items including 23 black plastic chairs, five metallic beds, two blankets, 20 stainless steel pans, one water pump, 36 taps and seven solar panels.

They were arrested on 12 October through an operation conducted by the Namibian Police Force, after a tip-off by members of the public that they were selling suspected stolen items.

The operation also led to the recovery of several of the stolen items. - Nampa
