Durbanville’s HoneySuckle Demi-sec

   Scharlarco Visagie

Picture yourself out on a picnic brunch with great company, good conversation and a Durbanville Hills Sparkling Honeysuckle Demi-sec – the main character of your shared merriment.

With citrus notes, hints of juicy, luscious peaches and a medium to full body, this Demi-sec has an almost perfect sugar-to-acid ratio, with a pleasant aftertaste that is lasting and cooling.

This sparkling wine could be mistaken for champagne, but it is not, and if you are new to the sparkling wine game and wondering what the difference is between sparkling wine and champagne, here is your chance to take some notes.

Sparkling wines are made fizzy or bubbly by being saturated with carbon dioxide gas.

They are produced all over the world, using a variety of grapes and methods – Prosecco from Italy, Cava from Spain and California sparkling wines are just a few examples.

Champagne is a wine-making region in northern France.

Champagne is the name given to all sparkling wines produced within the region.

They are governed by strict regulations that permit only certain grapes and production processes.

The wine is made entirely of Chenin Blanc grapes that were picked at their optimum ripeness. Cellar master Martin Moore uses highly advanced cellar technology to ensure optimal extraction of flavour.

Enjoy it chilled on its own or with a dash of orange juice to make a mimosa or have it perfectly paired with savoury light snacks like sushi, fresh oysters and smoked salmon.

If you have more of a sweet tooth, you can match this bubbly with mixed berries and cream.
