Eagles win final encounter

Namibia’s Richelieu Eagles concluded their five-match series against the visiting Indian State Cricket Team Karnataka with a five-wicket victory on Sunday at United Cricket Ground.

The result means that Karnataka won the series 3-2 on aggregate.

Namibia won the toss and elected to bowl then restricted Karnataka to 231 runs for the loss of 10 wickets (231/10) in 48.1 overs.

In response, Namibia scored 236/5 in 39.1 overs to claim a consolation victory after losing three of the five matches.

Steven Baard (59), Micheal van Lingen (56) and man of the match Merwe Erasmus (59) all scored half-centuries with Michau Du Preez contributing 38 runs to give the Eagles victory. Bernard Scholtz and Handre Klazinga were the toast of the bowlers as they both took three wickets each.

Scholtz conceded 33 runs from his 10 overs with an economy rate of 3.30 per over.

Klazinga bowled 9.1 overs and conceded 56 runs while Jan Frylinck took two
wickets and Erasmus one.

For the visitors, Jose Nikin continued with his great form with the bat scoring 61 runs, but that was not enough to deny Namibia victory. Meanwhile, on Friday, Karnataka wrapped up the series victory via a five-wicket victory.

The visitors won the toss and sent Namibia to bat, with the Eagles posting 253/7 in their 50 overs.

Karnataka responded with 256/5 in 47.1 overs to take a 3-1 lead before the final match on Sunday. The Eagles will now play Uganda in July.
