Energy conference unveils main sponsors

The Namibia International Energy Conference (NIEC), which aims to facilitate energy sector deliberations in Namibia, has announced its Sapphire sponsors for the upcoming 2024 event. The Sapphire sponsors are RMB, Shell, and Chevron and the event organisers stated this collaboration underscores the pivotal role of sponsorship in steering the conversations and innovations that chart the future course of Namibia’s energy sector.

Selma Shimutwikeni, founder of RichAfrica Consultancy and convener of the NIEC, extended appreciation to the three sponsors for their steadfast support and commitment; “The unwavering support from Chevron, Shell, and RMB Namibia is highly appreciated. Chevron’s partnership since 2023, Shell’s enduring sponsorship since 2014, and RMB’s remarkable three-year commitment highlight the collaborative spirit driving progress in our sector. RMB’s role is especially significant as it heralds the first financial institution to extend such substantial support to our conference,” Shimutwikeni articulated.

Shimutwikeni noted that the support from Chevron, Shell, and RMB not only facilitates the NIEC’s mission but also exemplifies the power of partnership in achieving long-term sectoral goals. “Their sponsorship is instrumental in providing a platform for critical discussions that will shape the future of energy in Namibia and contribute to the global dialogue on sustainable energy practices,” Shimutwikeni stated.

She continued that the collaboration with these industry giants is not just about financial sponsorship but is a testament to their belief in the NIEC as a catalyst for transformative energy sector advancements. Shell, a leading player in the industry, has been at the forefront of exploration efforts in the Orange Basin. Their ground-breaking discoveries in 2022 and the subsequent four discoveries over the past two years illuminate the path for Namibia and the broader African continent’s energy landscape.  “The NIEC serves as the premier platform for government officials, private sector representatives, investors, and thought leaders world-wide to explore and unlock Namibia’s rich energy sector potential,” read a statement from the conference organisers.

Angelique Peake from RMB Namibia emphasised the critical role of the conference and RMB’s engagement. “Our investment in the NIEC underscores RMB Namibia’s dedication to fostering a sustainable future for Namibia. The conference offers an unparalleled opportunity for engaging with key stakeholders in the Oil & Gas sector, paving the way for Namibia’s energy future. RMB’s commitment is aimed at nurturing proactive collaborations between international and local industry frontrunners,” Peake noted.

Scheduled from 23 to 25 April 2024 at Droombos Estate, Windhoek, the NIEC 2024, themed ‘Reimagine Resource-Rich Namibia: Turning Possibilities into Prosperity’, promises thought provoking dialogue and partnerships. Organisers explained that the theme captures the collective aspiration to leverage Namibia’s abundant natural resources for sustainable development, transitioning from potential to prosperity.

“Recent statistics underscore the significance of this gathering, reflecting the dynamic shifts and opportunities within Namibia’s energy sector. With Namibia positioned as a burgeoning hub for energy in Africa, the conference is set to highlight the latest advancements, strategies for sustainable energy exploitation, and the role of innovative technologies in transforming the sector,”  the organisers stated.
