Ex-cop arrested with rhino horns denied bail
Rundu The two suspects who were arrested by the police at Rundu on Thursday last week for alleged possession of two rhino horns have been denied bail in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court. The two suspects, Mashall Nakutwima Heita, 48, a former police officer, and Rundu resident Jeremia Martin Mukuve, 30, were denied bail due to the seriousness of the charges against them. The State argued against bail as the two might interfere with ongoing police investigations. The duo were charged with contravening the Controlled Wildlife Products and Trade Act of 2008 and their case was remanded to October 20 for further police investigations and for the suspects to acquire legal representation of their choice. The two suspects - both Namibians - appeared before Magistrate SN Samupofu, while Helvi Hanhele prosecuted.
