Exhibition memorialises Muafangeyo
Windhoek The National Art Gallery of Namibia (NAGN) in collaboration with the John Muafangejo Art Centre (JMAC) is hosting Muafangejo:Memory and Activism, an exhibition of the artworks of the late John Ndevasia Muafangejo to his memory. The exhibition forms part of the John Muafangejo Season, a new project initiated by JMAC aimed to honuor the remarkable legacy of Muafangejo through a programme of community engagement activities with local and guest practitioners from the Southern African region. NAGN’s communications and marketing officer, Annapaula Vakamuina ,  runs from Monday until next Friday and is framed as an intersectional dialogue of arts, archivists and activism. She adds that in remembrance of the late Namibian printmaker, and his work as sites of activism, this week-long programme will be in search of reflective questions that local creative communities should be potentially asking today. “This also includes futuristic questions around how we foresee engaging with collective memory and protest arts,” says Vakamuina. The dialogue will develop and promote new work geared towards socio-cultural activism as well as share ideas, information and skills on relevant contemporary arts and curatorial practices in the context of activism and archivist in Africa. Further it is also meant to create a platform for cultural exchange between practitioners from the region and beyond. As part of the Season the exhibition continues at the NAGN in the Foyer until November 5.
