Female lawyers assist child with protruding tongue
2016-08-22Staff Report 2 Windhoek The Namibian Women Lawyers Association (NWLA) on Thursday evening donated food and clothing to the child with a protruding tongue at Mix settlement. The association’s chairperson Ruth Herunga said NWLA ladies discussed the article that was published in New Era and then decided to focus on the little girl, Emilia Paulus, as part of their social responsibility. Herunga, accompanied by association members, delivered the items on Thursday evening at the poverty-stricken Mix settlement near Windhoek. Herunga’s husband, who is a dentist, will examine Emelia this morning and assess her medical condition for possible medical recourse. “I showed the article to my husband, Nelson Herunga, who is a dentist at Katutura Dental Practice and he decided to step in by examining the girl today. Hopefully this will be the start of the medical process for the little girl,” said Herunga. New Era ran the story last week wherein the little girl’s mother Emiliana Shisaande slammed the snail’s pace at which the hospital has been treating her daughter, as she wants her child to recover from her condition. Although Shisaande said she did not know what her child’s medical condition is, medical documents say she has lymphangioma extending to her tongue. Shisaande said nurses at Katutura hospital have been telling her “to wait” before her child’s condition is looked into. Shisaande and her daughter reside at Mix settlement, which is situated 20 kilometres north of Windhoek. Herunga said the ladies donated N$5 000 within three hours and she went to buy food, a drink supplement, clothes and toys for the little girl. After Herunga related to the ladies that Shisaande and her daughter sleep on a makeshift bed, one of the ladies bought a bed for them from a local furniture store on Saturday. The association also donated food to some residents in the settlement. Shisaande thanked the association for the assistance. “ I am really thankful. May the Lord bless you and render the same assistance you gave me, to others who may need it,” said Shisaande. 2016-08-22Staff Report 2
