Finance staff told to complete tasks on time
Keetmanshoop The Deputy Minister of Finance, Natangwe Ithete, urged his subordinates in the ministry to get rid of bad tendencies if they are for quality service delivery. Addressing the southern staff members of the finance ministry at Keetmanshoop on Monday, Ithete said there has for a long time been a culture that things in government always take long and people out there have become accustomed to this culture and its accepted like it is the norm. “This is abnormal and it shouldn’t be like that, when you are given a task complete it on time,” he noted. Ithete said there is a tendency among government employees to complete only thirty percent of what is expected of them just because they work for the government and this culture should be eradicated as soon as possible. He also called on unity and teamwork among the workers, explaining that being united will make the ministry a strong team and thus all employees should have a common goal in order to pull in the same direction. “Lets work together, you must never be here and work in isolation,” he said. Ithete also stressed the need for the finance ministry to be the role model for other ministries as it’s the ministry entrusted by the state to manage the assets and revenue of the country and thus all employees should be exemplary to others. He further encouraged them to study hard to contribute more to the ministry, but refrain from social evils such as alcohol abuse as it is not favourable with the image of the ministry. The minister is on a weeklong familiarization visit of the southern region and is expected to visit several towns and border posts and meet with different leaders of the region
