Finances will be the determining factor – Shimoushili

Blue Waters Football Club is yet to decide whether or not to participate in the Caf Confederations Cup, which starts in August.

Currently sitting in second place with 57 points, 10 points clear of third-positioned Mighty Gunners, who will not be able to catch them even if they win their remaining matches, Blue Waters secured the opportunity to play continental football when they defeated Civics 2-1 on Saturday to seal second place in the Debmarine Namibia Premiership.

According to club chairman Robert Shimuoshili, financial considerations will play a significant role in determining the club’s decision regarding participation in the Caf Confederations Cup.

Shimuoshili added it would be premature to give a definite answer on their participation at this stage, considering that second place was only secured over the past weekend.

He emphasised that the club would pronounce itself at an appropriate juncture and urged corporate stakeholders to support domestic football.

“For now, we continue pleading to our corporate stakeholders to come on board and support domestic football,” he said. In other results on Saturday, Black Africa missed an opportunity to escape relegation after drawing 1-1 against Rundu-based outfit Julinho at SKW in the capital.

With 29 points, Black Africa is 14th on the standings, while Julinho is 13th on the log with 30 points and Eleven Arrows is 15th with 25 points.

Citizens are 16th with 11 points and face relegation.

After the match on Saturday, BA head coach Brian Isaacs expressed his disappointment in the team’s missed chances, saying, “We were leading, and I told the boys to maintain the game – but unfortunately, we couldn’t, and we have to depend on other teams to decide our fate”.

In other matches on Saturday, Young African lost 0-1 to Life Fighters, while Okahandja United drew 0-0 against Tigers. Citizens suffered a 3-0 defeat to Eleven Arrows, while Orlando Pirates collected maximum points when they beat Gunners 1-0.
