Fireworks at Groot Aub this weekend

The Annual Queensab Soccer Bonanza is set for this weekend, and the organiser has assured fans that they should expect fireworks during the three-day event.

Over 30 teams will be battling it out for top honours in this prestigious tournament, with a grand total prize of N$60 000 up for grabs.

The champions will take home N$30 000, 20 gleaming gold medals, and an impressive floating trophy.

The runners-up will receive a handsome reward of $14 000 along with 20 silver medals.

According to the tournament organiser, Rhonie Rhuuksie ||Garoëb, this year’s competition is expected to be fiercely contested, drawing talented players from all corners of the country.

Reflecting on the tournament’s growth since its inception, he expressed optimism that, with the right support, it could evolve into the country’s biggest and most sought-after soccer event.

“We are anticipating an intense and highly competitive display of football throughout the weekend. The level of talent on display is remarkable, and we can expect quality matches from the very beginning to the thrilling climax in the dusty field of Groot Aub,” he said.

The current defending champions, Tuk Tuk, secured their title last year after a nail-biting penalty shootout victory over Google FC, winning 6-5.

Romeo Rooi, the coach of Tuk Tuk, exuded confidence in his team’s preparation for this year’s tournament.

“Our preparation has been meticulous, and we are fully geared up to defend our title. Participating in various tournaments in Gobabis, where we emerged victorious, has bolstered our readiness for this challenge. We have tested our mettle against strong opponents, and I believe the team is primed to clinch the title once again,” Rooi said.

Each team has paid an entry fee of $2 500 to vie for the ultimate prize.
