Namibia Correctional Service (NCS) continued their fine form in the ongoing MTC Namibia Netball Premier League (NNPL) last weekend, winning all their matches.
The inaugural champions played their first match on Saturday against Otjozondjupa Nampol in a tie they easily won 45-36, before defeating the northern outfit, the Northern Fly Ballers, by 54-27, on sunday they defeated Afrocat Lions 30-28.
Speaking to this publication yesterday, NSC Sports Administrator Absolom Mushandja reflected on their weekend tie, saying it was quite a challenging match, especially against Otjozondjupa Nampol. He said despite it being a tough encounter against Nampol, the players managed to stick to their game plan and win.
“I know it was not an easy weekend; as we draw closer to the end of the league, each and every team is fighting to get points. However, we are fortunate to have players who understand the club’s goal, which is to win the Premier League, and we made sure that in each game we play, our target is to win and collect maximum points,” he said.
Regarding their goal for winning the league and whether he thinks the team has already won the league after collecting valuable points over the weekend, he said, “It’s not yet over, as we have a couple of matches remaining, and if we happen to lose, we could easily get out of contention. But we remain positive and look ahead to the upcoming league fixtures.”
Also reflecting on Saturday’s results, Dimitri Bittler at Afrocat expressed satisfaction with his side. “I am happy with the way we handled the match, although we should have scored more goals. But we will go back to the drawing board and work on what we need to improve on. Overall, I am satisfied,” he said.
Also on Saturday, the Katutura outfit Tigers beat the northern outfit Northern Fly Ballers 50-34, while Afrocat Lions cruised past the coastal outfit Eleven Arrows with a 45-28 win. Meanwhile, the high-flying Wanderers remained on course as they beat Northern Fly Ballers 54-41.
On Sunday, Wanderers continued their fine run in the Premier League as they defeated Arrows 58-35, and NCS concluded the weekends affairs with a narrow 30-28 victory over Africats Lions.
