KEETMANSHOOP - The EHW Baard Primary School in Noordoewer last Friday inaugurated its new, fully-equipped computer lab worth N$360 000 through sponsorships from Escalate Investment and the Road Fund Administration.

In her keynote address, acting //Kharas regional education director Jesmine Magerman said the generous donation signifies not just a room filled with machines, but a gateway to endless possibilities and a commitment to nurturing knowledge. “In an era where technology is starting to shape the landscape of education, this computer lab stands as testament to the power of collaboration between the school community and those who recognise the importance of empowering our youth, “ she added.

Magerman said being faced with all the opportunities the Fourth Industrial Revolution offers to the world today, the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture is fully aware that the education sector in Namibia has to develop alongside the development of technology. The educator noted that in light of this, the directorate is constantly embarking on participating in discourse about advancing digital education in Namibia, and focusing on the digital school.

“Reality, unfortunately, is that we are far away from realising this dream because we have many schools in our region, especially primary schools, not having a computer room where learners can learn and explore the digital world and given the opportunity to access and harness the potential of digital resources to their disposal, “ she informed stakeholders and learners present. Magerman added: “With this generous donation of a computer room, these learners are ensured that they will have the ability to access and harness the potential of this digital resource, which is a fundamental skill in today’s world”.

The acting director then reminded the learners that the equipment is not just about hardware and software, but rather about unlocking creativity, fostering innovation, and bridging the gap to a world of information.

“Dear learners, you must seize the opportunities that this lab presents through exploring, questioning and learning,” she said. She also urged them to make sure that the computers are their companions in their journey of discovery. Magerman said while commending the principal, teachers, school board members, management and support staff of the school that their efforts, coupled with the technological boost, will undoubtedly shape future leaders, thinkers and problem-solvers who will come from this educational institution.

“Please ensure that these learners, as current beneficiaries of this lab and equipment, will not only utilise this physical infrastructure optimally, but that they would also ensure that this facility is kept in a good condition for many years,” she urged.

Magerman expressed their profound gratitude to the donors for their generous donations, which is in line with the directorate’s efforts to render effective quality education.
