Gobabis farm murder suspect in court
Windhoek Paulus Shilongo (33), who is accused of beating up his common-law wife to death on Farm Tredgold in the Gobabis District in 2012, made a first pre-trial appearance before Judge President Petrus Damaseb on Thursday last week. It is alleged that Shilongo assaulted Dina Eises by pushing her, kicking her, slapping her, tearing off her clothes, throwing stones at her and hitting her on the head, and hitting her with a plastic pipe on November 8, 2012. It is further stated in the indictment that Shilongo then dragged the deceased to their shack situated at a cattle post on the neighbouring farm, Geluk, in Gobabis District where the assault continued into the early morning hours of November 9, 2012. Eises died as a result of head injuries sustained in the assault and the accused covered her body with a blanket inside the shack and locked the shack from the outside with a chain and padlock and fled the scene, the indictment reads. On Thursday, Deputy Prosecutor General Antonia Verhoef handed the court documents to Shilongo’s State-funded lawyer, Trevor Brockerhoff who indicated that he would reply to the State’s pre-trial memorandum before the next court date. Damaseb postponed the matter to July 23 and remanded Shilongo in custody.
