Greenwell Matongo Primary receives boost
Katima Mulilo Greenwell Matongo Primary, a school named after the celebrated late combatant and political commissar of the then People’s Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN), Greenwell Matongo, received a donation of a computer lab from Fishcor, a fishing company based in Lüderitz, on Tuesday. The equipment, 20 computers, a projector and a projector screen are worth about N$150 000. Speaking at the official handover of the computer lab the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Bernard Esau, who was the keynote speaker, stated that the donation will play a significant role in the development of learners at the school. “We are living in an information technology era and ensuring that our learners have access to computers at an early stage in their education journey is very critical for their understanding of this era,” he said. Esau also urged other corporate entities, especially in the fishing sector, “to emulate the gesture by Fishcor and reach out to schools around the country to contribute as much as possible to education development.” The principal of the school Alfred Malesu stated that the school was very lucky to have been chosen to receive the donation. “It’s now our responsibility as a school, parents, teachers and learners to look after our resources, and make the best out of it,” he said. The school, which teaches grades 0-7, opened its doors in 2006, and currently has about 1 280 learners and 49 teachers.
