The MTC Namibia Horse Racing Association (NHRA) is planning to host its annual general meeting (AGM) at Gobabis next month.
The AGM is a platform where horse racing clubs register for the upcoming season, while financial reports will also be presented to members.
In an interview with New Era Sport yesterday, NHRA’s president Martinez de Waal said the main objective of the meeting is to discuss programmes for the year and setting up a financial budget for the new season.

“We will have our annual general meeting on the 13th of February in Gobabis where we will decide on the programmes for the year and giving our financial year report as well as the presidential report. We will also look at hosting the second MTC horse racing,” he said.
“Last year we had a good year, with MTC hosting a successful event at Okahandja, so this year we have put that on the cards to host the MTC Independence Cup in May.”

De Waal also cautioned members and horse racing enthusiasts to abide by health regulations set by the authorities to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the country.
He, however, urged them not to lose hope and continue training the horses to keep them fit.
“I want to encourage every single club and individuals that are affiliated with us to not lose hope and, I know there’s an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases that has now caused fear amongst ourselves, I believe for now we have to all abide to the health measures that are set by the government to ensure we are all fine,” he added.

“I urge member clubs to continue training the horses in isolation and keep the horses well trained. For now, we have to wait until the president says something before we make a move.”
Last year, NHRA received a sponsorship of N$500 000.
