2016-12-08Staff Report 2 Walvis Bay The Walvis Bay Town Council has approved building plans worth N$680 million since November 2015, with 242 residential properties having been constructed at the coastal town since 2015. Walvis Bay mayor Wilfred Immanuel made the revelation during an extraordinary council meeting held on Tuesday to elect office-bearers for the 2016/2017 term of office. Immanuel said the value of completed buildings stands at N$285 million. Out of the 242 residential properties built, 187 were flats or apartments while 109 additions were added to existing structures. Fourteen industrial buildings and seven commercial buildings were constructed at the town since November last year. Council also spent N$15.8 million to upgrade the waste-water treatment plant and an additional N$756 000 for setting up electrical generating units for the town’s sewer network operations. A new pump station costing N$500 000 was constructed in Kuisebmond to address sewerage problems at the suburb while N$1.2 million was forked out to construct boundary walls at Narraville and in town. Immanuel further said N$5.5 million was spent on paving and resealing streets and sidewalks, while N$2.4 million was spent on the acquisition of skip trucks and loaders and N$75 000 was used to construct ablution facilities and to extend the Kuisebmond netball court as well as informal trading stalls. A total of N$15 million was spent on a new community hall for Narraville that was inaugurated earlier this year. A further N$2.4 million was earmarked for cleaning services that will be carried out by eight black empowerment groups that will render cleaning services to Kuisebmond and Narraville on behalf of council. 2016-12-08Staff Report 2
