A case of murder has been opened against a 40-year-old man for stabbing his 43-year-old wife multiple times with a pair of scissors, resulting in her death on Friday in Windhoek.

According to the Namibian Police spokesperson Elifas Kuwinga the incident occurred on Friday, at the couple’s flat in Rocky Crest.

The deceased has been identified as Helen Onesmus.

It is alleged the suspect who cannot be named until he makes an appearance in court,  stabbed Onesmus multiple times with a pair of scissors resulting in her death. Three knives and scissors were allegedly found next to Onesmus’ lifeless body.

It is further alleged the couples were in the process of divorcing.

The suspect is currently receiving medical treatment under police guard at the Katutura Intermediate Hospital after he attempted to take his own life by stabbing himself with knives.

He is reported to be in a stable condition. Police investigations are still ongoing in the matter.

In 2019, Onesmus posted on her social media page her strong stance against gender based violence.

“Gender based violence, has always been there, we have turned a blind eye to it for too long.

It has become a norm to some men, when the beatings stop, they result to killing, mind you this should not be called passion killing cause there's nothing passionate about it, as a country we have turned a blind eye to the growing issue, this needs to be curbed before it escalates beyond return. These selfish weak men should understand that women are not their property or possessions and Women can make a decision to leave or stay whether married or not,” she said.
Onesmus shared this post a few days after a 28-year-old man was stabbed with a screwdriver by his 38-year-old girlfriend.
