I had the extreme honour of co-hosting the Restoration concert alongside the amazing Ndilimeke last weekend. 

The concert was sanctioned and organised by the non-profit organisation, Never Walk Alone, and headlined by continental worship superstars, Joyous Celebration.

Mine today is to review all the performances of the day. 

Honest disclaimer: this was the first time that I hosted a gospel show. I have hosted some of the biggest concerts and festivals in the last 10 years, but a gospel mega show was not one of them. So, I did not know what to expect from the acts, apart from Rodney Seibeb, Dee’A, D-Naff, Adora, Joharetha Nel, Collective Singers and Joyous Celebration.

Let us start with Sedney, a chap from Swakopmund. Sedney pleasantly surprised me with his opening. His backup singers are amazing as well. The art of backup singing is not highlighted enough. Back-up singing can either be extremely good or terrible. Sedney’s team of backup singers did exceptionally well. 

Omaruru Young Brothers, Soli Deo Gloria, Natse oyoMuwa Choir made me long for home. Every Sunday morning, your parents would have the radio on loud, playing the different languages of NBC radio services while getting ready for church. 

As for the CRC Windhoek choir, one word, wow! For someone who has never seen them in action, I was pleasantly surprised. I found myself dancing, worshipping as if I was at a rave party. Rave for Christ, yes! ACM Entertainment Group did the same but in the form of Oviritje. Their performance caused a stir but that is another debate for another day. All I can say for now is no one has the right to dictate to you how you should worship your maker. 

Sisters Ruth and Khwezi brought the house down with their powerful sopranos and the ‘da-maai’. Ndenda, Vuuyo Johnson, Alex Shiwayu and Namibia need to see more of you, and not just your immediate worship environment. 

Ettiene Boois and Pride were on a different level of artistry. 

In me, they have a new follower. 

Adoration HC – allow me to confess. Since that concert, I have stalked every single video performance I could find online. Adoration HC is unbelievably amazing. Jael MK, Maranatha and Manda Gabriel almost had me forget that I still have a show to host. I wanted to toss my mic on one side and just praise.

Clive and the Now Generation Choir are by far the best ensemble in this country. We do not highlight what this organisation has done for this industry and the country at large enough.
