ORANJEMUND – Information deputy minister Emma Theofelus said through exchanging ideas and experiences, the true potential of Oranjemund can be unlocked to forge a brighter future for all. 

She articulated these on Wednesday during the one-day Oranjemund Investment Conference, which formed part of the seventh edition of the Oranjemund Diamond Festival. 

“Let us create an environment where failure is not feared but celebrated as a stepping stone to success,” Theofelus advised.

On the topic of digital transformation, which she described as an avenue that offers immense potential for real-time benefits, she urged the Oranjemund Town Council and other local authorities to strategically invest in digital transformation.

The politician continued that such investments can bring about improved public services, enhanced connectivity as well as increased efficiency and transparency in government operations. 

Describing some of the benefits of digital transformation, she mentioned that it can improve access to information and services for citizens, promote transparency and accountability in governance, enhance business processes and e-governance as well as attract digital businesses and foreign investments. 

She also said in order to position Namibia strategically on the world stage in light of the country making waves globally with its ambitions in green hydrogen, synthetic fuels and the recently discovered hydrocarbon deposits, her ministry and the Namibia Investment and Development Promotion Investment Board is in the process of developing a national brand. 

“This initiative aims to showcase Namibia as a desirable destination for tourism, investment, residence and talent,” she assured.

Also speaking at the event, Oranjemund constituency councillor Lazarus Nangolo called on the business community and potential investors to come on board and invest in Oranjemund, //Kharas region and Namibia as a whole. 

“We have a lot to offer to those interested in flourishing their businesses here,” he promised. 

Nangolo continued that opportunities in the areas of agriculture, tourism and businesses have not been fully utilised in the town; hence, the time to capitalise on them is now. 

The councillor then called on Namdeb to arrange for a diamond exhibition to be part of next year’s festival as a means to give more meaning to the auspicious event.
