Katutura East Constituency SMEs equipped
WINDHOEK – Twenty small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Katutura were the beneficiaries of sewing machines, deep freezers and hair salon equipment to further boost their productivity. The SMEs were handed the hardware worth a combined N$273 000 by Elina Ndapuka the councillor for Katutura East Constituency. ‘’I know all of you will be going home with a mind full of ideas for your business, how you will clearly plan to it get further off the ground and continue,’’ said an upbeat Ndapuka. She however said the Khomas Regional Council “holds the right to forfeit materials/equipment from non-performing projects that benefitted under the income-generating project.” Ndapuka said the equipment would benefit them only when they know how to handle and use it, urging them also to take good care of it. ‘’Some may end up not appreciating the equipment so they instead just sell it to get money. This equipment is meant to bring you income, to assist your families and communities in future,’’ said the Katutura East councillor. Frieda Sakaria, one of the beneficiaries, said she received three sewing machines. She said she has been sewing for many years, but previously never received any help. Sakaria, a mother of four children, sews at home. ‘’I am going to work well,’’ she said excitedly. “I say thank you to the Almighty and to the people who helped us. It is not on our own but by God’s grace that we are receiving this,’’ said Magadalena Gaingos. She received a deep freezer and a chip-making machine for her eatery.
