//Kharas receives cement from Ohorongo
Keetmanshoop //Kharas Regional Governor, Lucia Basson last Friday received 720 bags of cement worth N$ 70 000 from Ohorongo Cement that donated cement to all regions as part of the 25 silver independence jubilee. Ohorongo donated 14 truckloads of 720 bags of cement weighing 50 kg to each of the regions worth over N$1 million. Officially receiving the donation on behalf of the whole region, she conveyed her gratitude to Ohorongo on behalf of the region for “donating the most important material in the building industry.” She stressed the people of her region will make a living out of the donation considering that it is earmarked for brick-making projects, building day care centres and completion of the build together houses in certain areas to mention but a few. Basson said the donation promotes ubuntu that advocates for the sharing of natural resources on principle of equity among and between generations. “People are people through other people, our people will be who they are because of you Ohorongo Cement,” stated a seemingly jovial Basson. She then called on the beneficiaries to use the cement for the intended purposes, at the same time urged the leaders in attendance to supervise and monitor the effective usage of the donation, adding that her office will specifically device strategies to monitor the projects benefitting from the donation. Speaking at the event Ohorongo Sales Manager Martin Hattingh said the company has embarked on a social responsibility journey that will see each of the 14 regions receive 720 bags of cement. He said this gesture is not only part of the silver jubilee independence celebrations but is also aimed to act as contribution towards the general development of Namibia and its people as a whole. Hattingh said Ohorongo Cement is an infant within the brand-new industry as “it diligently strives to continuously contribute towards Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) and supports government initiatives.” The donation will be distributed throughout the region to different projects, with each of the seven constituencies in the region set to receive 100 bags.
